Relay For Life
What Is Relay for Life?
Relay For Life is a life-changing event sponsored by the American Cancer Society that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
How Is Sierra Moms Involved?
Sierra Moms has been supporting this event for many consecutive years in several ways, both by fundraising for and at this event, as well as having a team walking/running in the relay. In past years, some of our fundraisers have included holding garage sales with donated items, a booth with a silent auction at the relay, and sometimes other creative fundraisers such as a chocolate party fundraiser!

Excerpt from July 2012 Crier:
Guess what? Relay For Life – Folsom was a huge success! The American Cancer Society raised $108,797.00 in total. Team Sierra Moms came in third place this year with a total of $8990.00. I was also recognized as the top individual fundraiser for this event with $2895.00 raised. Team Sierra Moms received the Team Trophy, which we get to keep for an entire year! Kind of like the Stanley Cup of Relay! We received the most points for fundraising events, being in the lead the longest, individual fundraising, having a full team, everyone reaching at least $100.00 raised, etc. This trophy is a huge honor, representing all of our hard work! We will have a plaque placed on the trophy with Team Sierra Moms name to be displayed there for years to come. It was a huge surprise to myself and Pam when we were awarded it Sunday morning. We thought it went to the team who raised the most money, but instead it went to the team that was recognized for working the hardest for the money they raised! -Rhonda H.

Excerpt from July 2010 Crier:
On May 22nd and May 23rd, 69 teams, 1100 people (200 cancer survivors) walked all night to fight cancer. Our team of Sierra Moms, ladies from Mélange, and friends and family took turns on the track to walk for 24 hours straight. We also managed a booth for fundraising and had multiple drawings every hour for 46 fabulous baskets donated by Mélange, a shabby-chic shop in historic Folsom. We earned over $900 from our booth fundraiser alone. Our team goal was $1,000 and we overshot that goal to raise more than $5600! The Folsom event raised over $130,000! -Lisa W.
